Colin Towns’ six piece Blue Touch Paper released their debut album ‘Stand Well Back’ in May 2011. Formed in 2010 with German and UK musicians, the writing/recording took two years to complete. Featuring Mark Lockheart (Polar Bear, Loose Tubes), Chris Montague (Troyka, Kit Downes), Benny Greb (Stoppok, Ron Spielman), Stephan Maass (Randy Brecker, Kruder & Dorfmeister), and Edward Maclean (Peter Fox, Nils Wülker). Their second album ‘Drawing Breath’ released in October 2013, demonstrates a developing energy within the band, with powerful compositions that continue to push the band forward both technically and creatively.
Blue Touch Paper has no barriers “rarely does a piece of music demolish the well known conceptions of sound and structure”. Jazz, rock, film, classical, electronic etc – it’s all of these but none of these. Leave your expectations behind – this is not a predictable band!
“my structured German mind tries to put it into boxes but doesn’t succeed” – Benny Greb
“it’s optical music, it takes you on a trip…the challenge of this band is to play without fear” – Stephan Maass
